White Water Rafting in Geilo 20 August, 2007

Back in Geilo again for an action-packed weekend with my cousin and friends who visited me in Norway. We hiked on the mountains crossing a few ski slopes (no snow at the moment of course) for a couple of hours on Saturday morning. But no doubt the highlight of the day was the white water rafting in the afternoon.

Dagali, some 20 minutes drive from Geilo has an excellent river for level 3, 4 and 5 rafting. The water was probably about 10 degrees cold but the wet suits helped keep us just a little bit warmer. To survive the cold, we had to just bank on the adrenalin pumping through the ride.

The rafting lasted for 2 hours or so with our guide from Nepal. There were about 5 other groups with us with quite a few falling overboard. None in our group had the pleasure of falling out into the water but we were nevertheless soaked going through all the drops and the rapids.

This is something I would definitely try again soon!

Lazy Weekend 13 August, 2007

Enjoyed a long weekend holiday in Southern Norway. Out partying hard Friday night in Arendal and woke up with a hangover on Saturday… which was ok since it was raining a bit anyway.

Sunday though was a perfect barbeque weather. Stayed in a summer cottage in one of the islands called Lyngør near Tvedestrand – 45 min from Arendal. After a bit of a boat trip around to check out the postcard picture perfect fishing communities, we tried to catch some fish but gave up after an hour. Which meant we had to settle for pork barbeques! No complaints there.

It’s the new and environmental conscious version of the Google search engine.

First came across this from a friend’s blog and was a bit skeptical on how much energy such an initiative could actually save.  But multiply a small amount of energy to millions of google-maniacs then I guess we’re talking about quite a figure.

For those skeptics who simply doesn’t take anything without an explanation – this links to how a black screen actually save energy.

Blackle – the new Google.

Here we go again 4 August, 2007

As in previous posts, I have decided to rant about the rain in Bergen once again.

Could’ve been a very good summer, at least the prospects were so at the start of June.  The month of July had 24 days of rain, and it is still raining.

But the meteorologists reported that we’ll see more of the sun from today.  Since I woke up at noon time (Saturday…) I’ve been waiting for the rain to stop as promised.  We’re all hopeful that it would stop later in time for some weekend night out.
