MRI Results 29 March, 2008

I got my MRI results last week.  The diagnosis is basically a total rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).  I’ve read that an operation might be needed to repair the rupture.  But I’m still waiting for an appointment with an orthopedic doctor (and it’s been 2 weeks).  Things take time in Norway…

So I’ve read that an operation is actually better than not having one to repair the damage.  If that happens, rehab might take 4 to 5 months – the thought of which has been bothering me a bit.  But no choice really but to get resigned to that fact and face the music.

The procedure is called an arthroscopy which entails some small incisions over the knee.  It is an outpatient procedure common for sports injuries.  By now I’ve read quite a lot on the subject.  The names and definitions makes it sound complicated, serious and scary so it actually took me a bit of time to be comfortable with it.  I mean, it’s not yet for sure that I will need some procedure, but hey, better prepared than surprised later!
