Christmas in the Philippines 16 December, 2007

Aside from the food (yeah yeah… of course friends and family) the thing I miss most from the Philippines on Christmases are the huge lanterns called ‘parol’. We hang them on the front porches and sometimes just while away time looking at them on our windows following the rhythm of the lights.
In the province called Pampanga, approx an hour north of Manila, they have this annual festival of lanterns where communities compete with each other with their 18 feet tall lanterns.
Only in the Philippines…

Spending Spree and more… 11 December, 2007

‘Tis the season to be jolly…
‘Tis also the season to spend. It seems that each year has been record years on the amount people spend in the shops for christmas. This year is no different. And I’ve made my contribution to the records.
‘Tis also the season to watch the weighing scale go over the top. So many christmas parties, so little time… I’m fortunate to have been invited to a few traditional Norwegian christmas dinners. This meant good drinks and good food – and perhaps a hangover the next day.
‘Tis also the season to plan for the holidays! Since I do not have family in Norway, I have an excuse to travel during the Christmas holidays… This year’s destination is good ‘ol Canada… where I also plan to fetch my christmas present for myself. I’ll soon be a proud owner of a Macbook!
