Summer holiday planning 23 June, 2007

Everyone’s making plans for their summer holidays. There are a number of cheap offers like to Kos in Greece for only NOK 1700. Would’ve been lovely to spend a week holidaying in the beach.
Unfortunately, I’m grounded for some time until at least when I sort out my passport renewals. I probably need to stay grounded for a while anyway as it would do good with my bank account.
That said, I’m not letting summer just drive by. Summer is looking good in Bergen. We haven’t seen a drop of rain for weeks until just this weekend – which was the reason why my plants died on me.
Nevertheless, I did make some summer holiday plans here and there. First up is Molde next weekend, a nice small city an hour’s flight north of Bergen. Next up is Geilo and Arendal over the next two months.
Some holiday planning here and there.
Today is midsummer night – longest day of the year. There are bonfires and barbeques around town to mark the day (known as Sankthans). The vikings and their fires.
Sea Rafting – Det var helt syk! 17 June, 2007

The sea rafting we did Friday was totally insane!
For our summer mystery trip we went out sea rafting in Søtra and out into the open waters of the North Sea (probably not that far out). It only took to find some good waves to make it insanely fun.
The swells out in the sea propelled our rubber boat high up flying over the waters. There were a lot of waves so at one point it became too bumpy and we felt like we were jumping up and down from our seats.
Nothing like a nice ol’ extreme challenge to get your adrenalin pumping. And then of course you just have to sit and hold on fast!
Ways to enjoy the sun 10 June, 2007

Flew to southern Norway to the coastal towns of Kristiansand and Arendal for a seminar. I understood the weather was not as good just a few days back but luckily cleared up in time for our trip. We managed to get some time to enjoy the great summer weather by the sea.
Arendal and Kristiansand are well known as a summer holiday place in Norway. Beautiful coastal towns and the sea dotted with numerous islands – big and small.
The seminar was of course excellent, coupled with making new acquaintances. Even more enjoyable though was a boat trip to Merdø – an island just off Arendal. The boat we were on was a restored 1911 fishing trawler.
Summer won’t be summer without a grill party and a seafood party – both of which we were treated to during our stay.
I cannot get enough of the beach and the boats so I stayed an extra day to enjoy some more of the sun.
Managed to work a nice tan but I now have large big marks around my eyes due to my sunglasses.

DotA 2 June, 2007

The only Warcraft I played was one of the first versions. It’s been years, I don’t even remember the version. My brother in the meantime tried to keep me abreast with the developments of computer games. I’ve heard of DoTA before – never really got into playing it but it’s short for Warcraft: Defense of the Ancients. The video almost shows what it is.
Swedish song by Basshunter. ‘Vi sitter i Ventrilo och spelar DotA (We’re sitting in Ventrilo and playing DotA)’. The artist also produced the hit Boten Anna.
Basshunter describes his own music as Eurodance, but others also classify it as Hard Dance and Trance.

Summer’s here 1 June, 2007

Weekend’s finally here. We were promised a lot of sun this weekend by the local meteorologists – I hope they get it right. It doesn’t look promising as I look out my balcony.
Bought a couple of one-time grills (en gangs grill) earlier to stock up for barbeques. Best to kick-off the summer with a quick hike over Fløyen tomorrow. Then have some friends over for a barbeque.
These days it doesn’t get dark before midnight. And the sky is never totally enveloped with night. There are still a bit of dawn / dusk blue which is misleading me a bit the past few weeks. It’s good that my bedroom came with dark shades. I wonder how people further north get some sleep.
