Spring’s here 31 March, 2007

1_316631c.jpgSpring forward.  We shifted time last weekend, and since i keep 2 watches, typical of me to forget my other watch.  I only wore that watch over weekends out (coz the other watch is somewhat ‘office-like’).

So when I wore it last night and was out and about until morning, i thought that it was still 1 am when it was actually 2am!

Spring is in Bergen.  We’ve had beautiful weather these two weeks with sunshine and cool breeze.  It’s still a bit cold at 10 degrees but it’s a nice walk around the mountain nevertheless.  I just came back home from my walk.

To mark the beginning of spring and to take advantage of the fine sunny day - we had a barbeque at my friend’s rooftop yesterday afternoon.  The grilled meat couldn’t have tasted better, especially with South African white wine which I brought from Rotterdam last week.

I’m off to Manila tomorrow morning and staying in the beach until Easter.  Woohoo!

London Again 28 March, 2007

I was back in London the past few days for a seminar and spent the weekend hanging out with my friend Maciek.

London is such a busy city.  At some point in the busy Monday morning, i just found myself amazed by the rush of people to get on and off trains, speed walking their way out of the stations to get to their offices.

Simply negotiating my way around the tubes exhausted me. Then again i’ve been out and about since Wednesday flying around the continent. First in Hamburg then Rotterdam where i had to run to Amsterdam for my flight to London.

It was a heck of a week. I was simply glad to have reached the weekend.  I stayed at Maciek’s place in Rotherhithe for the weekend.  As he was moving places that same day, I gladly helped move some stuff as well.

Sunday was supposed to be spent just going around the city.  Our feet eventually led us in front of Albert Memorial.  The picture is just facing outside of Royal Albert Hall.  Me and Maciek were waiting for the start of a concert. We watched Classical Spectacular which is a compilation of the best classical pieces along with some pyrotechnic and lights show.

The show was splendid. Looking at the program, I did not recognize a lot of the titles before the concert started. But it turned out that i knew most of the pieces from before.

This is the reason I love coming to London. So much shows to watch, so little time.

I have already scheduled another trip back in May…

Downhill Skiing 18 March, 2007

Went back to Geilo again this weekend. We spent seven hours on the slopes learning the ropes on downhill skiing.

The weather was perfect. It was a sunny, minus 5 degrees with light snow. Towards the late afternoon the wind was blowing hard – as if we were in those movies where you can actually see the snow on the grounds being blown away.

There weren’t so much people around as winter break was just over. It was a perfect time to learn downhill skiing as you’re less likely to hit somebody.

It was amazing sliding down the slopes with the cold wind rushing past. I should’ve learned this earlier – I spent last year’s winter season trying my hand on cross country.

Winter’s almost over. It seems like this is the last time I’m skiing this season. I’ve got my schedules packed over the next few weeks.

Madness 11 March, 2007

The past week was mad.

It’s been pretty quiet on the blogging front – which can easily be explained by the tons of things to do in the office.  I had to work until late a couple of days last week preparing for meetings and meetings.

I must’ve been out last week 4 out of 5 weeknights.  Once on a business dinner until the wee hours.  The others are semi-business because it was after a seminar and we just needed to hang out for a bit.  And the others were to celebrate the end of the week.  Notice all the excuses for going out.

Friday was mad.  Hanged out at the piano bar Zachen again for an early pop quiz game show.  There were 4 rounds.  The first was entertainment, second was sports, third was science and fourth – music.  I didn’t help out much in the answers but i’m pretty proud still that i contributed 1 correct answer in each category (my friends were quicker in getting out the answers).

We aced the science round – thanks to a friend of ours who actually knew who Charles Babbage was!  The last time i heard that name was in grade school!

And for acing that round we got a couple of Heineken sponsored products like a mouse, free drinks in the bar, etc.  We were fighting amongst ourselves who would get the mouse.  Fortunately, my friends actually knew the host of the quiz show and so the guy was talking to us on our table.  He probably saw us fighting real hard for the mouse so he went up to the office and got us a couple of boxes more!  We really fancy the mouse.

Go Heineken!

Madness was the right word for that night.  Let’s just say I’m glad I was done with my annual medical check-up that same day and I no one would be drawing blood tests from me for at least in the immediate future.
