I am posting this blog in advance to wish everyone a Very Merry Christmas!

As the title suggests, its the last day here in the office before christmas, and before my big holiday to Egypt. 

I have seen all my colleagues go today and it’s now 7:30 pm.  So what am I still doing in the office? 

There’s always tons of things popping up before I go off to my holiday.  Plus I want a clean desk when I get back so I tidied up to the best I can. 

It was also a nice treat that I won in the wine lottery in the office today.  So I am bringing home with me, among others, a 2005 Chardonnay Viognier from the South of France.  I’m flying to Oslo for Christmas eve so I will have my own little Christmas eve tomorrow night with a bottle of wine and some tasty dinner (I have yet to decide what to make).

My blog is becoming crowded with all these Youtube videos I am uploading.  Amazing how much stuff is on the internet. 

When I did school research before, my primary source of information was my volumes of encyclopedia or the library.  Now, my cousins in highschool just have to sit and google a topic – and all information goes straight to your screen. 

I’ve been to the public library here in Bergen a few times but only to accompany some friends.  I didn’t get to register for a library card until tonight as I was looking for a book recommended to me by our CFO.  I amazoned it (is there such a word at all?) this afternoon and if I want to order it there it will cost me about US 20 plus shipping.  So I thought I should look for it in the library first. 

You know the library here doesn’t cost a single kroner?  Unless of course you missed your return dates or anything like that.  It has a huge collection (most of them in Norwegian of course) of books, cd’s and even dvd’s.  I will sign up for some dvd’s soon (I understand that there is a waiting list on a lot of them).

About the book ‘The Essays of Warren Buffet‘ – I didn’t find it in the library so I am gonna try in the university library.

I actually listened to the guy when I was in highschool!  We have a chicken restaurant chain (pretty good actually) named after him back in the Philippines.  Dunno if its actually his recipe or what but it actually is good!

One week til Christmas.

I loved the Coca-Cola holiday commercials back in the 90’s when I was a kid.  Here’s one of the longer versions.

1.  We’ve had summer-like temperatures this morning (in December!) at some 11 degrees C.

2.  For the first 12 days of December, we reached 307 mm of rain for the month.  The normal level of rain for the whole month is 235 mm.  The record rainfall was 568 mm last 2004.  

Last week, all umbrellas in 7-Eleven and the Kiosks were sold out.  It’s not only the rain, it’s more of the wind making casualties out of the umbrellas.

3.  Got a gift certificate from Bra Film (video renting company) for 2 weeks free renting of videos.  I watched 2 nice movies last night – Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang with Val Kilmer and Robert Downey Jr. and the 80’s classic St. Elmo’s Fire. 

Watching St. Elmo’s was amusing – all the 80’s songs just came rushing back my mind like, ‘Hey I know this song!’.   Also got to see actors / actresses before they became famous such as Demi Moore, Rob Lowe, Emilio Estevez and Andrew McCarthy.

4.  I watched these movies at a colleague’s place when I offered to babysit for an evening.  Babysitting for me = watching dvds while the kids sleep. 

5.  It’s officially 12 days before christmas.

After 40 days and 40 nights of rain, the sun finally made an appearance in Bergen…

but only for 10 minutes.

Forecast for tonight is 40mm of rain and probably the same in the next couple of days.

This week – the earliest time I have gone to bed is 1 am. 

I’ve been out a couple of times this week.  On Monday, my colleague and good friend Janniche (soon to be ex-colleague) invited me to her trip to IKEA that night.  I’ve never been to IKEA here in Bergen before but I have been to those stores in Canada like 10 years ago!  There’s so much nice things on display – you get crazy ideas on how you want to fix your place.  I also spent a fortune - i have to get myself a bedside lamp so I can start reading Dan Brown’s Angels and Demons (I was so engrossed with his other book Da Vinci Code and just have to see what all the fuss is about Angels and Demons). 

Yesterday, Tuesday, I went to a Christmas concert sponsored by Norway’s big mobile company Telenor in Johanneskirken (St. Johannes ? Church).  I love Christmas concerts.  They invited Lillian Boutte to sing coming all the way from New Orleans – so it was a New Orleans christmas concert – all that jazz!

And today went out on a date!  Had a great time – watched Happy Feet (my cousin Christian from Sydney worked on the film) and had tapas afterwards.  I want to see her again soon.

Ok - off to bed.  It’s 1:30.
